WHAT HAPPENED TO THE IDEA OF A GOLF COURSE AT BKK?

The City of West Covina had planned a municipal golf course to be on land that is adjacent to and one of the BKK landfills.   The City issued bonds for the golf course and expended more than $10 million on preparations for that golf course.

During the economic downturn the golf course developer was unable to obtain financing for the project.  Subsequently the City concluded that the golf course would likely not be financially self-sustaining and be a drain on City finances.  Accordingly the golf course idea was abandoned.

Unfortunately the bonds to finance the golf course had already been issued and those funds had already been spent.  The debt service on these bonds in about $500,000 annually.
